The Blues suffered a 2-0 league defeat to the Magpies on the road but the result could have been different, had they played with 11 men throughout.
Sandro Tonali scored after just two minutes on the clock. The Blues tried to get back into the game, but Jackson picked up a needless red card in the 36th minute.
The Blues showed plenty of courage to create three big chances after the break, but Bruno Guimaraes put the game beyond their sight with a late goal.
Speaking after the loss, Maresca was asked about Jackson's red card.
He told reporters: "I didn't speak to Nico, it's not the moment. We will speak in the next day."
"No doubt he has to learn from it, especially at this stage of the season where we have two more games."
Despite the defeat, the Blues remain fifth in the league table after Nottingham Forest failed to beat Leicester City at City Ground.
Chelsea have their Champions League destiny in their own hands and may have to win their remaining two games to secure their berth.
